OS has not been confirmed, only guessed at; so breathe a bit.

@arjw: There's a lot of pictures of the ACME with the screen on. Its definitely S60v5.

LED flash is a major con. Samsung support is very poor. I'd be very wary of buying one.

Why are we waiting for the N97 then?

HDMI!!?? WTF!? Samsung will push Nokia to pull their finger out this year IMO.

+1 @adonisdemon- HDMI!?!? The composite out with Nokia devices is a joke, and a gimmick IMHO. Completely useless to anyone who gives a damn about video display quality at all. At least we could have been given S-Video...? I want an HDMI output on my next mobile. Badly.

Come on Nokia... Samsung has a mobile with an integrated projector and now this beast with the HDMI out. I know last year was a difficult restructuring period- but let's get going with the hardware again already!

Oooh... missed @CJ's comment. Fair point indeed!

@PseudoFinn: I think integrated projectors are just as gimmicky. HDMI is definitely something to look forward to.

    Hot rumor is capacitive screen.

@arjw: What we are mulling at, I guess in Korea they take for granted! :D

@iamnotdrtran- I don't know... I can see the value in a projector phone for more than a few consumers. It depends on your needs and uses, so I suppose there's some that use and love the composite output on their Nokia, but it's a f'ing joke AFAIC. Seriously, composite resolution is beyond dated and the use of it in any device released at this point (or 2 years ago for that matter, N95) cannot be taken seriously by me. It's useless- HDMI on the other hand... white hot.

I can't wait to see the 720p video recording samples...

I asked a Symbian high-up about HDMI at the Symbian Partners Event. He said "that'd take a whole extra chip". I wonder if Nokia is working on HDMI? Seems like it'd be a good thing! Wonder about battery life while decoding HD video?

hdmi output is built into the OMAP 3 FYI

@norcalbarney It's been very loosely confirmed that they are... and I would suspect so even if I hadn't heard anything. There's been much going on other than hardware development at Nokia this past year, but they're not sleeping. Also- it's not about being first to market, it's about doing it right- that's reoccurring theme I hear from Nokia. At any rate- hopefully there will be some more surprise devices at MWC from our favorite brand, perhaps Samsung knows this and is releasing info a little over a week early rather than fight the Finnish giant for the spotlight in Barcelona...?

idk about you guys, but all i want from 3GSM is to see how many Android devices come out, i have a bet with a few colleagues on that, and to get information about the GSM version of the Palm Pre

Nokia doing it right first time? Someone's pulling a fast one on you!

@adonisdemon- While it's not exactly what I said, I hear you and it is a fair point. :-)

If this device had a keyboard, I'd be drooling even more. Even still, this is sick. Just sick. And I'd take a projector over any output ;)

@arjw: Projector over HDMI? Care to explain why?

    9 months ago by adonisdemon

  • arjw

Sure; right now I am typing this on my N95 which is connected to my TV; I would like to get rid of the TV, because its only otherwise used for DVDs, which these days can fit on a microSD kinda easily

@arjw: So you want to use the projector for watching movies? I can see your point, it is fine for your needs I guess. For me HDMI out is awesome, the higher resolution would go great with my HDTV. The projector is a great idea for on the go solutions, but how much time would you get from using it before the battery runs flat?

If its anything like my current TV-Out usage over 3G, then I will just about make a 90min movie. When I'm connected via TVOut, I'm usually plugged in. For more "mobile-centric" events, i'd have to use my solar charger to keep me topped off

  • CaffeineJunky

@arjw, I know you like to think of this as progressive(?) and all....but I'm plugging in a real TV, fondling a remote and not thinking about it so much. A nice large TV bolted to the wall. That is always charged. That about 20 people can fit around. I'm weird like that.

  • arjw

Sheesh; you speak as if the projected image is as small as the phone. Personally speaking, dealing with one less electronic device is a benefit. If the mobile can fit there, I'll try it. If it doesn't work, then it doesn't and I move on

No, that's not what I'm talking about at all. When you have more than one person in the house, you'll know what I'm talking about.

@constantine: OMAP has HDMI? really? which one? even family reference might be interesting :)

@silpol- OMAP 3 products have support for 720p video playback over HDMI.
